Cloud-Based Access Control Subscription Services

Why Cloud-Based Access Control?

Businesses looking for access control solutions are increasingly turning to cloud-based subscription services. Cloud-based access control systems provide the reliability and security of an on-premise, server-based access control system without the cost of the server and associated maintenance. They provide real-time monitoring and alerts, helping to prevent unauthorized access. Cloud-based access control systems can also integrate with other security systems, such as video surveillance or intrusion detection, to provide a comprehensive security solution.

Traditional, on-site systems can be expensive, as they require the purchasing of hardware, software, and/or servers, as well as a physical space in which to house them. And because they are physical, they have more points of failure and require additional maintenance, which can lead to downtime and even extra costs.

As the name suggests, cloud-based access control systems do not use a physical server but are hosted by an offsite “cloud” server that is maintained by a provider. Users “subscribe” to the service, with pricing based on the number of doors or readers in the system. The simplicity of this subscription service removes the hassle of upfront, expensive server purchases and continued maintenance. Cloud-based access control systems are highly secure, with data being encrypted and stored securely in the cloud. These systems are also easy to install and can be up and running quickly, reducing downtime and disruption to the organization. Though they serve the same purpose as on-premise access control systems, the ease-of-use and reliability of cloud-based systems make them a great solution for any facility in any market.

Though cloud-based solutions are extremely secure, they do rely on other entities to protect business and personnel information. As some company data is sent outside of the organization, some IT managers may have concerns. It’s important to be aware of these minor drawbacks, and to include your IT department during the consideration and installation of a completely cloud-based system.
