This course focuses on the basics of cyber security, from various types of cyber threats and how to protect against them, to discussions on encryption and password management.

Overview:

This course introduces the student to various cyber security topics, including introduction to different types of computer malware, internet threats, and modes of cyber-attack and ways to defend against them. The content is a mixture of lecture/discussion and YouTube videos that introduce topics for discussion.

Course Prerequisites:

  • Working knowledge of Windows OS 
  • Basic mouse and computer skills 
  • Ability to watch YouTube videos from device 

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will understand: 

  • The basics of cyber security including commonly used jargon 
  • Common cyber risks and different ways computers can be attacked 
  • Different techniques for protecting one’s data online and preventing cyber attacks 
  • The very basics of cryptography/digital encryption
  • Safe web browsing habits 
  • Strong password selection and management techniques 

What You Will Receive:

Upon the completion of this course students will receive a Certificate of Completion.  We will provide course materials including the course slides, and a video introduction to analytics capabilities. This will be an online only course.
