BioFire Diagnostics: The Project That Keeps On Giving

2019 was a very successful year for the LONG Utah sales team, due to numerous successful projects and the single largest project for the office in over 25 years: BioFire Manufacturing HQ. One of our continued partnerships is with BioFire Diagnostics, a Utah based, wholly-owned subsidiary of the bioMérieux Corporation. BioFire specializes in the field of In Vitro Diagnostics, specifically the equipment used in urgent care facilities and doctor’s offices to determine if you have a viral or bacterial infection when feeling ill.

The BioFire Manufacturing HQ project included various HVAC equipment from numerous manufacturers that is currently being commissioned. Here is an example of some of that equipment:

  • 7 ea. Custom Air Handling Units from Energy Labs
  • 5 ea. Thermal Solutions EVS-3000 Condensing Boilers
  • 2 ea. Water Source Heat Pumps
  • 51 ea. Armstrong Pumps
  • 39 ea. Yaskawa Variable Frequency Drives
  • 5 ea. Cooling Towers
  • 4 ea. Water Cooled Chillers
  • Airside Package – Krueger GRD’s & VAV, Ruskin Dampers, and Cook Exhaust Fans

ScientistAll and all, it was a great project for the Utah team and for LONG! Though it is great to find success with a large project, it is even more rewarding knowing we have helped support a company currently doing important work.

BioMerieux and BioFire are now on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight, as they are pursuing two tests that confirm if a person has been infected with this contagious virus. The first is the SARS-COV-2 R-GENE® test that is currently being submitted for FDA approval and should be available to our Healthcare facilities in April.

In parallel, a fully-automated test based on the BioFire® FilmArray® technology is being developed to detect the virus on their current FilmArray® equipment platforms. They are also embarking on a new Respiratory Panel that will produce test results for the COVID-19 virus, as well as 21 other common respiratory pathogens, in 45 minutes or less at numerous doctor’s offices and urgent care facilities across the US and the globe.

As we face the daily challenges that the COVID-19 virus presents to our families, organizations, and governments, it is refreshing to know that we have a local partner and customer on the front lines of the fight.
