Mark Balent

President & CEO

Mark oversees all the core functions, operations and values of LONG Building Technologies, Inc. He is primarily responsible for the successful operation of the LONG contracting businesses. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and economics from Carnegie Mellon University in 1976 and an MBA from the University of Denver in 1992. Mark came to LONG in 1983 and was part of the management team that purchased the business from founder Willis Long in 1992. He became President and CEO in 1999. Since 1983, he has seen LONG grow from a 17 person $25 million manufacturer’s representative to over 400 employees today.  LONG is now a multifaceted $140 million organization with operations in HVAC Sales, Building Automation, Systems Integration, Mechanical Services and Security Systems. He is also a two-time past President of InsideIQ, a member of ASHRAE, a LEED Accredited Professional and a Registered Professional Engineer. Mark enjoys sailing, skiing, diving and golfing. Mark has two children.  His daughter and family, including 2 grandchildren, live in Bozeman, Montana, and his son works for LONG in the Colorado Controls Business. 

 

Jeff Long

Chairman of the Board

Jeff leads the company’s HVAC sales group, as well as LONG’s accounting, IT, human resources and administration teams. After earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration with minors in computer science and behavioral science, Jeff began his career at IBM in 1981. He held several sales and management positions before coming to work for LONG in 1989 as a sales engineer. Jeff spends a large amount of time cultivating relationships and perfecting internal systems and strategies to make sure LONG is providing world class service to its customers. When he’s not traveling between LONG’s offices, Jeff likes skiing, fishing, cycling, hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Pandora Dyer

Vice President - Finance

Pandora leads the LONG Accounting Team from the company’s headquarters in Littleton, CO. Over the last ten years she has made significant contributions in the planning and implementation of corporate wide standards and processes that help make LONG run more efficiently as a whole. Pandora has her Bachelor’s in Accounting and Information Systems from Metropolitan State University of Denver. She is also a CPA and carries a CGMA designation. She started her career with LONG in December of 2007, after moving to Denver from Virginia. Her role with the company began as a Senior Accountant and quickly evolved through the ranks of Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, and now - Vice President of Finance. In her spare time, Pandora enjoys warm sunny days with friends and family and participates in several sprint triathlons throughout the summer to stay active.

Amy Smith

Director of HR

Amy oversees employee relations, recruiting and retention, benefit administration, employee programs, and compliance at LONG Building Technologies, Inc. After earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing at University of Northern Colorado in 2003, Amy started her career in recruiting in the customer service, administrative and technical arenas.  After graduating with her MBA from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008, she earned her PHR in 2010 and her SPHR in 2013.  Since joining LONG in 2011, Amy has worked to integrate wellness initiatives and activities into the company culture, support the company’s benefit planning and administration, participate in the company’s safety committee, and maintain a focus on compliance and ethics in LONG’s dynamic industry. She is a Colorado native who enjoys exercise, hiking, and spending time with family including her dog, Lenny.

 

Jason Johnson

Network Administrator

Jason manages LONG’s IT infrastructure and helpdesk. He received his Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. Jason started his career with LONG right out of high school and has dedicated more than 20 years to the company. When he’s not taking care of the LONG Team, he enjoys spending time outdoors (specifically hunting) and spending time with his family.

Paul Livengood

Director of Integration and Development

Paul leads the design, development and management of the company’s ERP system. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from USC and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Regis University. He also holds several Microsoft certificates, including CRM, SQL, C# and SharePoint. Before getting into Development and IT, Paul was a CPA.

Alaska

Brian Miller

Vice President - Sales

Brian oversees LONG’s offices throughout Alaska. He got his start in the electrical field, and in 1984 joined Control Contractors, Inc. as a Field Supervisor. Through the years, Brian held the position of Branch Manager and Chief Technology Officer for the company until it was acquired by LONG in 2014. As part of Team LONG, Brian moved to the position of Sales Manager over all of LONG Alaska, before receiving a promotion to General Manager of the state in 2016. Brian holds an Electrical Administrators License in Alaska, Washington and Arizona, as well as a Mechanical Administrators License in Alaska. He is a past president of both the Alaska ASHRAE chapter and the Alaska Mechanical Contractors Association, and a member of BOMA. In his free time, Brian enjoys snow-machining, building his family cabin, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Chris Bracken

Operations Manager, Security Solutions

Chris leads the Security Solutions team as well as operations for all units in LONG Alaska.  Chris spent the first 10 years of his career in the military, learning what it takes to accomplish tasks no matter the difficulty level. Since, he’s gained 17 years’ experience in the service industry. His training and experience outside the military began with field work and quickly progressed to sales, large project management and eventually managing business units for his region. He found a home at LONG in 2015 and has since spread his wings to learn more about LONG’s BI and MS businesses. Chris is a Dad to three energetic boys, and enjoys taking on the role of an artist in his studio whenever he can.

Scott Plough

Branch Manager - Fairbanks

Scott is charged with managing all functions of LONG’s Fairbanks, Alaska branch. In addition, he takes a boots-on-the-ground approach, actively serving customers and drumming up sales to ensure maximum customer support and success for his branch. Wearing many hats is no foreign concept to Scott. With over 37 years of experience, he has often acted in both a management role, a service role, and a sales role simultaneously throughout his career. It’s this well rounded approach to the business that enables him to provide holistic customer service and support to the people of Fairbanks and the surrounding communities. When his LONG hats come off, Scott enjoys camping, fishing and gold prospecting with his lovely wife, Marissa.

Tom Hix

Construction Supervisor, Building Intelligence

Tom manages projects and operations for Building Automation in the LONG Anchorage branch.  He attended the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Tom Alexander IBEW Electrical Apprenticeship School.  Tom is a third-generation licensed electrician.  He holds an Electrical Administrator License.  Tom has been in the controls business for over 15 years, getting his start installing DDC, before moving into project management.  When not working, he enjoys boating and spending time with family and friends.

Colonel Lindsey

Service Supervisor, Mechanical Solutions

Colonel has been in the HVAC industry since 1978.  After serving his country in the Army, he began working as a pipe welder and fitter in 1977.  From 1978 until 1987, Colonel traveled the south-eastern part of the country building hospitals for the Hospital Corporation of America; his position was Main Power Plant and Plant Construction Supervisor.  When Colonel joined LONG's Alaska team in 2015, he performed refrigerant systems installations on AC units.  He later moved to the service-side of LONG and was promoted to Service Supervisor. Colonel is a licensed Union Plumber, Certified Medical Gas Installer.  When he's not busy working, Colonel enjoys flying planes, riding his motorcycle and boating.

Susan Hauth

Office Manager

Susan keeps the Anchorage office running smoothly by managing all of Alaska’s invoicing and collections, as well as aiding in the planning and implementation of key office processes and procedures. In addition, she takes personal pride in engaging the team in monthly activities that both unify the office and help the local community. Susan received her Bachelor’s degree from Boise State University. She started her career in the HVAC industry as an office manager for Trane in Anchorage, AK for 10 years before becoming a dedicated member of Team LONG. In her off time, Susan enjoys travel, sea kayaking, 4-wheeling, camping, crafts and reading.

Colorado

Lawrence Trifiletti

Senior Operations Manager, Building Automation

Lawrence oversees operations and process development as well as the hiring and training of staff within LONG’s controls group in the Colorado headquarters office. He has more than 20 years of management and information technology experience and has worked with many high profile clients including the U.S. House of Representatives, Sprint and Lockheed Martin. He has been with LONG since 2012.

Scott Papay

Sales Manager, Building Automation

Scott is responsible for leading all sales efforts for the controls business unit at LONG headquarters. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado and served in the United States Navy as an Engineering Watch Supervisor before moving on to management positions at Bailco Service Corporation, Johnson Controls, Tiernam & Patrylo and Trane. He has been with LONG since 2009 and is LEED AP-NC, FE and Six Sigma Black Belt certified. In his free time, Scott enjoys CrossFit, spending time with his family and outdoor activities including hiking, camping, hunting and golfing.

Brenda Herrick

Senior Business Manager, Building Automation

Brenda is responsible for the business side of LONG’s controls group in Colorado including job cost accounting, contract review, subcontracting, purchasing, budgeting, reporting, and material handling. She earned an MBA from the University of Kansas in 1984 and since then has worked continuously in the controls industry. Brenda started at LONG in 1992, coming over with the acquisition of Winner & Associates. She enjoys traveling, gardening, and hanging out with her family.

Mike Sailor

Construction Manager, Building Automation

Mike oversees the day to day operations of the Colorado controls team.  In addition, he manages staffing and recruiting for the controls installation group and the project manager teams in the mountain and Denver regions.  In his role as Construction Manager, he also supervises the Colorado Building Automation fleet.  Mike is a member of the safety committee and works with his fellow committee members to provide the safest work environment possible.  Mike joined LONG in 1996 as a Controls Installer/Panel Fabrication Specialist.  In 2000, he was promoted to Controls Installation Supervisor, and in 2007, he was again promoted to his current position as Construction Manager.  Mike enjoys spending time with his family, camping, fishing and cheering on the Denver Broncos.

J.J. Vesely

Application Engineer Manager, Building Automation

J.J. is the Application Engineer Manager for the Building Automation business unit in Littleton, Colorado.  While his primary responsibility is to oversee the development of control drawings in Colorado, he works closely with operations in other states to establish standards for all LONG controls groups.  J.J. began his career at LONG as the Delivery Driver in the summer of 1994 but quickly moved into the warehouse supporting customers' parts needs.  He joined the controls team as an Application Engineer in 1999 and transitioned to a leadership role in 2005.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Metropolitan State College of Denver.  When he's not in the office, J.J. enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Jason Nefs

General Manager, HVAC Equipment

Jason is responsible for equipment sales in the Colorado region. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in engineering and began his career as a sales engineer for Trane before coming to LONG in 2006. With expertise in all major building system technologies, Jason actively engages with major Rocky Mountain area owners, developers, property managers, general contractors, mechanical contractors and engineers in the application of HVAC and other building technology solutions.

Eric Nelson

Operations Manager, HVAC Equipment

Eric manages inside sales support and operations for LONG’s equipment sales group in Colorado as well as air distribution warehouse sales and inventory. He has a background in mechanical engineering and has more than 30 years of combined experience in industrial engineering, HVAC sales and consulting engineering. Eric held various positions including lead engineer and owner’s representative at Abeyta Engineering Consultants, Inc. and Lockheed Martin before joining LONG in 2003. In his spare time, Eric likes to golf, swim, hike, bike and restore older cars and motorcycles.

Valarie Daniels

Director, E-Commerce and Marketing

Valarie oversees the e-commerce and marketing efforts for LONG.  She began her journey with LONG in 1994 as an administrative assistant and was promoted to Office Manager in 1998. After 10 years of overseeing the administrative needs of the corporate headquarters, she joined the equipment sales team to further her growth and learning. The knowledge Valarie has gained over the past 20 years has enabled her to identify and manage LONG's marketing needs as well as handle the responsibilities associated with development and implementation of the LONG’s e-commerce site supporting our OEM and aftermarket parts sales efforts (www.LONGPartsPros.com). Valarie has been married for over 20 years and has a household of furry friends. She enjoys working out, going to the movies and walking her dogs.

Jake Gash

Director of Warehouse Operations

Jake is responsible for managing the daily Colorado warehouse operations including HVAC, Building Automation and Security parts sales as well as overseeing the Air Distribution and Hydronics operations. During his career at LONG which began in 1994, Jake has been an integral member of, and has lead the parts team to excel with both his extensive knowledge of the industry and his exemplary customer service.

Jeff Ramsey

General Manager, Mechanical Solutions 

Jeff manages scheduled service sales, project retrofits and repairs and technical field services for LONG’s mechanical services group in Colorado. He has an associate’s degree in business management from Arapahoe Community College, completed a sheet metal apprenticeship with Local 9 in 1986 and has a strong background in sales. From the time he was in grade school, Jeff has spent his time learning different trades from house painting, auto body repair and sheet metal to sales and service management, but has been in the HVAC industry for the past 30 years and is involved in every aspect of a building’s HVAC system. Jeff and his wife currently run a cattle ranch east of Parker, Colorado. He also enjoys mountain biking, guitar picking and fixing “stuff.”

Cheri Lingk

Business Manager, Mechanical Solutions

Cheri manages all the internal administrative operations for LONG’s mechanical services group in Colorado. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Western State Colorado University in 1982 and began her career as a receptionist for CLIMATEngineering in 1983. She later became the accounting manager when part of CLIMATEngineering became Winner & Associates. Cheri also worked for Beardslee Holland and started her own accounting business before coming to work for LONG in 1999. She enjoys golfing, skiing, Zumba, scrapbooking and spending time with her husband, Wayne, their three children and friends.

Dewey Schlag

Service Manager, Mechanical Solutions

Dewey manages the Denver and Colorado Springs mechanical service technicians.  He started in the HVAC trade in 1987 while attending Los Angeles Trade Technical College.  Dewey moved to the great state of Colorado with his family in 1999 and started working for LONG as a service technician.  He has since been promoted to the service manager role.  In the 30 years that Dewey has been in the trade, he feels extremely fortunate to have been able to work with what he considers to be the hardest working and smartest people in the industry.  When he's not working, he spends his spare time competing in ATA trap shooting events and hunting with family and friends.

Richard Coleman

General Manager, Security Solutions

Richard oversees the sales and operations aspects of LONG’s security solutions team. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver and has an extensive background in electronic security. Prior to that, he owned a computer networking company that designed, installed and maintained computer networks for businesses. Richard is always looking for new ways to provide customers with cutting edge security solutions that help streamline their businesses and improve safety and profitability. He also enjoys ice hockey, collecting guitars, writing and performing music and working on his vintage car collection.

Alison Firkins

Corporate Services & Support Manager

Alison oversees the administrative support team at the corporate headquarters in Littleton, Colorado. She began her career at LONG in 1994, originally hired to assist one of the company’s business unit’s and later joining the corporate administrative team. She was then promoted to Office Manager in 2008. Alison’s years of experience with LONG have established her as the “go to” woman for both internal and external customers. She is the proud mother of her son, Juston. She loves being a band mom and supporting the high school bands her son is actively involved in including the marching band, jazz band and orchestra.

Montana

Dave Brenden

Sales Manager, Building Automation

Dave leads the sales efforts in the state of Montana. He graduated from the Phoenix Institute of Technology with a Computer Aided Drafting and Design degree. In 1989 he was the first employee for a Montana temperature controls contractor, where he spent 25 years, before starting his own company. Dave is experienced in all aspects of the controls business, including installation, engineering, programming, project management, operations management, estimating and sales. As a resident of Billings since early childhood, he has been a well-known fixture in the Montana temperature controls community for over 28 years. Dave spends his spare time with his wife, family, and grandchildren, traveling, camping, and on the various Montana lakes with their pontoon.

Josh Goll

Operations Manager, Building Automation

Josh is responsible for the daily operations of the Building Automation team. He completed a five-year apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and went on to obtain his Electrical Master's License in Montana and Wyoming. He is experienced in a variety of electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarm, security, and controls. Josh joined Team LONG in 2016, but he has worked in the controls industry since 2002, picking up strong skills in control systems and project management along the way. When not working, Josh and his family enjoy many of Montana's outdoor activities, especially camping and skiing.

Nevada

Dave Rice

General Manager - Nevada, HVAC Equipment

Dave’s role at LONG is twofold in that he manages the day to day operations of equipment sales in LONG’s Nevada office and also serves as an outside sales engineer. After earning a degree in engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Dave began his career as controls project manager with LONG in 2006. Since then, he’s also been in a controls sales and operations manager role. Dave life outside of work is spent with his wife and children.

Oregon

Joe Moran

Branch Manager - Oregon

Joe Moran is responsible for the oversight of LONG’s Oregon business units: Building Automation, Mechanical Solutions, and Security Solutions. With over 30 years of experience in the HVAC equipment and controls industry, Joe brings a unique perspective to the LONG team and their valued customers. Joe grew up in the industry. After graduating from University of Portland in 1984, he went work as a salesman for a local HVAC company. Two years later, his dad hired him to build up the HVAC side of the business at Moran Oil Company. He also worked as an Equipment Manufacturer’s Representative for more than 15 years. Later in his career, he took on the role of General Manager for a small independent Contractor, where his proven track record drew the attention of LONG.

Utah

Paul Christiansen

General Manager - Utah, HVAC Equipment

Paul is responsible for mechanical equipment sales in the UT market. He achieved his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico, followed by a MBA from the American Graduate School of Intl. Mgmt. (Thunderbird) in Glendale, AZ in 2004. Paul began his career with Envirco Corp., promoting HEPA filtration systems for cleanrooms in Asia, and later managed the Krueger organization in the North American Air Distribution market for 6 years. Before joining LONG in January, 2017, Paul led the PennBarry and Lau Sales, Product Development, Engineering, Customer Service and Marketing teams. As General Manager of LONG Utah, Paul will be implementing growth strategies to strengthen LONG’s market position, as well as enhance the group’s portfolio of Mechanical Products in the Intermountain region.

Brandon Jones

Operations Manager, HVAC Equipment

Brandon manages operations for LONG’s Utah branch, which focuses primarily on HVAC equipment and parts sales. He has been in the industry for over two decades, seventeen years of which have been spent with LONG. Brandon began his LONG journey as an Inside Sales Rep before advancing to a Project Manager/Bid Coordinator and finally, Operations Manager. When he’s not working hard for LONG and our customers, he enjoys spending time with his family and doing just about anything athletic.

Washington

Craig Engelbrecht

Branch Manager - Washington

Craig Engelbrecht drives the vision of the LONG Seattle branch. He oversees all functions, operations and company culture for the branch, ensuring a positive environment, poised for growth. Before joining LONG’s Seattle team, Craig worked for Siemens as the Director of Smart Services and Technology. He has over 15 years of entrepreneurial experience within the building automation industry and has even pioneered energy information software solutions. 

Randall Rhead

Operations Manager, Building Automation

Randall manages operations for the Building Automation and Mechanical Service units in the LONG Seattle branch. He attended both Olympic College and Bates Technical College. Randall was a fire fighter/EMT before becoming a licensed electrician. He has been in the controls business now for over 15 years, getting his start installing DDC, before moving into programming and eventually project management and operations. Randall was hired by LONG in 2016 as a Project/Operations Manager and quickly rose to the occasion, relinquishing his project management responsibilities to take on more of a leadership role for the controls and mechanical service teams. When not working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends. He’s also a diehard Yankees fan.

Steve Stumpf

Vice President - Security

As the Vice President of Security for Alaska, Oregon and Washington, Steve Stumpf manages LONG’s delivery of Security Solutions. He works directly with sales, project management, and engineering teams at each branch within those states to ensure that we represent our security offerings most effectively. Prior to joining LONG, Steve was Vice President/Principal of Argens, where he managed operations, the company’s security and locksmith divisions, sales, product training, and HR. During that time he assembled an outstanding portfolio of clients throughout the states we continue to represent today.

Wyoming

Mike Brown

Vice President - Montana & Wyoming

Michael oversees all the core functions, operations and values of LONG Building Technologies, Inc. in the states of Wyoming and Montana. He led the effort in the recent expansion into Montana. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1993, from Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration, Troy, Michigan. Michael has actively pursued building automations, fire and security throughout his 34 years of leadership. Michael joined LONG in 2015. Michael has previously worked with Johnson Controls, SimplexGrinnell and Simplex Time Recorder. Michael earned a Greenbelt in Six Sigma. Michael has been married to his lovely wife for over 35 years. They have five adult children and eleven grandchildren. Michael earned his Eagle Scout award as a youth and has been actively involved with youth throughout his adult live. Michael takes work life balance to heart by actively pursuing flintknapping as his past-time artistic hobby.

Peter Samuelson

Operations Manager, Building Automation

Peter is responsible for daily operations of LONG’s controls group in the Wyoming office. He completed a four-year apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Pipefitter with the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters in 1982 and also has a background in control system design, programming and project management. Peter began working for Honeywell in 1983 and also held positions at Johnson Controls before coming to LONG in 1998.

David Kenik

General Manager, Mechanical Solutions

David manages sales and operations business functions in our Cody, WY location, as well as maintains an account portfolio, primarily in the K-12 community, throughout Wyoming. Starting out in the industry, David jumped in with both feet – owning and operating his own successful mechanical service business in Montana from 1974 to 1985. In 1985 he decided to sign on with Johnson Controls in Wyoming and through the years held positions as a Digital Controls Technician, Applications Engineer, Service Manager and Owner Direct Sales Representative. He joined LONG as an Owner Direct Account Manager in 1998 and has been living the LONG life ever since. In his spare time, David is an Arborist. He and his wife Bev enjoy most outdoor activities – especially when they involve his three daughters, son, and four grandchildren.

Dick Johnson

Service Manager, Mechanical Solutions

Dick is responsible for service operations in LONG’s Wyoming office. He has an associate’s degree in refrigeration and air conditioning from North Dakota State College and has been working in the HVAC industry for nearly 30 years. Dick spent time a service technician for A&A Electric and Refrigeration and Johnson Controls before coming to work for LONG in 1998 and becoming service manager in 2000. He enjoys all outdoor activities including camping with his family, archery, fishing and four wheeling. As a youth baseball coach, Dick served on the board of directors for Youth Baseball as well as American Legion Baseball and is a long standing member of the Elks Lodge.
